Dynamic Modeling of Vehicle Performance in Braking

Abstract
The continuous increasing of the vehicle fleet also generates proportionally an increase in the occurrences of accidents caused by mechanical or human failures. Therefore, vehicle systems related to safety are extensively tested and tools are sought to predict its dynamic behavior in order to improve the robustness and efficiency of projects and products. Thus, this work intends to numerically model the brake system of an automobile and compare the theoretical results of braking performance with those obtained in practice on a test track. To carry out the practical tests, the vehicle after reaching the test speed is forced to a complete stop. Vehicle instrumentation is composed of vehicle sensors (OBD2), accelerometer, load cell and video camera images, in order to obtain relevant data for model comparison and validation. The numerical model, despite containing some simplifying hypotheses, it obtained results close to the practical tests, as in the speed deceleration curve and in the total values of displacement and braking time. Thus, it can be used for diagnosis and as an auxiliary tool in the development of the vehicle.
