Omissions of Container Ships to the Port of Suape
Main Article Content
Abstract
With globalization, the world market has become conditioned to a good logistics chain the maritime transport of containers, which has become fundamental to ensure commercial exchanges, contributing to the economic development of the region. The Port of Suape has a leased terminal for public use - Tecon Suape, which has been concerned with the omission of ships arriving at Suape, mainly for long-haul navigation. This article aims to analyze the causes of omissions of container ships to the Port, considering performance indicators, the relationship with the pandemic and the consolidation of China as Brazil's main trading partner. The data were obtained from Tecon Suape and the three main Shipowners that operate in this terminal and the performance indicators used are applicable to maritime container terminals in Brazil. The results point to changes in maritime routes that mitigate the suitability of the Port of Suape as a national hub port for containers. The decision of omission rests with the Shipowner, and the main cause is related to the delay in the arrival of ships to Suape, which results in missing the “window” of the next port and increases the cost of operation in the anchorage basin.
