Abstract
In Brazil, 16% of work accidents result from the lack of compliance with NR12, which deals with machinery and equipment. Thus, the study aimed to identify the necessary adjustments to comply with regulatory standard 12, in order to bring more safety to the process and mitigate the risk of accidents. The method used to identify existing hazards and risks was through the development of a checklist to comply with the norm, estimation and risk classification made through the Hazard Rating Number method and application of a case study for the adequacy of an industrial guillotine in a metallurgical plant. electrical panels located in Recife/PE. The study identified opportunities for improvement in the evaluated location, in addition to raising costs to adapt the existing system in the environment in question, eliminating or reducing the risks and costs with possible fines from inspection bodies and resulting from work accidents. A total of 61 items were evaluated, of which 22 were in disagreement, 3 of them being serious and imminent risk. After applying the study, 21 disagreements were corrected, leaving 1 machine non-conformity pending with a cost for adaptation of 13.6% of the total value of a possible notification arising from the conditions in which the operation was found
