Assessment of Fire Risk in a University Library Using the Gretener Method with Implementation of the Bow Tie Methodology
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this study, we conducted a fire risk assessment at the Central Library of the Federal University of Pernambuco (BC-UFPE) in Recife, Pernambuco. Our primary goal was to address fire safety issues, applying the Gretener Method in conjunction with the Bow Tie methodology for risk management. To conduct this complex analysis, we employed the BowTieXP software, which facilitated the integration of the Gretener and Bow Tie methodologies, making the decision-making process more efficient. In addition to the theoretical analysis, we conducted technical visits to the Central Library of the UFPE and reviewed relevant literature and documents related to the structure of the BC. The results revealed a significant gap in terms of safety, indicating that the library was not in compliance with the minimum required standards. Consequently, we presented a set of recommendations aimed at enhancing the library's safety, with the goal of elevating its level of safety to acceptable standards. This involves combining the Bow Tie concept with the Gretener Method for risk assessment. This study represents a significant step toward ensuring a safer environment for library users and should serve as a crucial starting point for future improvements in fire safety.
