Abstract

This review demonstrated the application of some technologies for monitoring of confined environments, in order to guarantee greater safety to the workers who work in these spaces, through bibliographic research. Full original and review articles, theses and dissertations were included, as well as books that addressed the theme, published in different virtual libraries, without language restriction, published between 2010 and 2021. Thus, it was observed that among the numerous existing technologies, the ones that stand out are the use of wireless networks, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and inspection with drones. Wireless networks can be used for air quality monitoring, detection and control of gas leaks and robot-related accidents, with fall prevention. These in addition to the support and maintenance of equipment, among others. The industrial internet of things can integrate numerous devices provided with detection, identification, processing, communication resources; connecting man and machines, transferring and integrating knowledge between people and organizations. Finally, the use of drones in confined spaces is a solution to improve safety and efficiency in operations, as it makes it possible to access hard-to-reach places, capture images of welds, oxidation, wear, cleaning and corrosion. Performing thermographic inspections at relatively high temperatures, toxic or low oxygen areas.
