Utilization Simplified of the ARICA Method to Identify the Fire Prevention and Mitigation in Historical Centers: Case Study in Pátio de São Pedro, Recife.
Main Article Content
Abstract
Cultural heritage buildings are subject to natural disasters (earthquakes, floods), physical disasters (fire and landslides) and even human disasters (acts of war and vandalism), of which fire is the most common and can occur in any building. The main objective of this study is to identify, analyze and propose measures to improve old buildings, as well as to warn of the need to change or improve local legislation, making it more specific for fighting and preventing fires in Historic Buildings. The study applies the simplified ARICA methodology to the Pátio de São Pedro, Recife, a historic and cultural area with origins in the 18th century. This study analyzes state legislation and the application of the method to six buildings of different uses in the Old Complex. The results reveal the risk and vulnerability index of the buildings in relation to fire. It was found that improvements to the buildings, such as physical installations, state of conservation, greater safety in escape routes, fire-fighting safety equipment, as well as collective improvements to the Historical Complex such as the creation of safety teams with fire-fighting and evacuation exercises simulating a possible real situation, aim to improve the rates and ensure the preservation of heritage and the protection of lives.
